The Story
In 1805, the fate of Europe hangs in the balance as Horatio Nelson’s fleet prepares to face the combined might of France and Spain.
For Thomas Rivington, a country vicar’s son, joining HMS Jeopardy is a test of faith. He leaves his peaceful parish determined to be a light in the dark. Instead, he is plunged into a brutal, soot-stained wooden world of unsparing discipline, salt-chafed skin, and the claustrophobic reality of the lower decks.
But the elements and the enemy are not the only dangers aboard the seventy-four-gun ship of the line. Deep in the hold, Thomas and a small band of unlikely allies uncover a chilling conspiracy. The ship’s brilliant, brooding surgeon is selling secrets to the French—and planning a sabotage that could sink the vessel from within during the height of the coming battle.
To save their shipmates, these young officers-in-training must navigate a web of secrets and dangerous moral gray areas. They are forced to sail into the historic fury of Trafalgar alongside a traitor they cannot arrest, waiting for the precise moment of action to stop him.
